Sesame Cookies
Sesame Cookies are a classic Italian-American treat — buttery, tender cookies rolled in toasted sesame seeds for a nutty crunch. Simple to make and irresistibly delicious, they're perfect for the holidays or any time you want a timeless, lightly sweet cookie.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup, Butter, softened
- 1 cup, Sugar
- 2 lg, Eggs
- 2 tsp, Vanilla
- 3 1/2 cups, Flour
- 3 tsp, Baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/3 cup + 2 tbsp, Whole milk
- 1 cup, Sesame seeds
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 375°. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Using mixer at medium speed, cream together butter and sugar (about 1 min.) Add eggs one at a time, vanilla, and 2 Tbsp milk.
- In a separate bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, and salt. Add into butter and sugar mixture.
- Form balls of dough and shape into small logs.
- Pour 1/3 cup of milk into a small bowl and sesame seeds onto a small plate. Dip dough into milk, then into seeds. Place on cookie sheet about 1" apart. Slightly flatten tops of cookies.
- Bake at 375° for 18-24 minutes until lightly golden. Cool on cookie sheets for 5 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack.
Notes:
- I do a heavy 2 tsp vanilla (or more)
- You can toast sesame seeds in a pan if desired, but not needed.
- I prefer my cookies lightly browned (pull from oven when edges are turning brown).
