Sesame Cookies

Sesame Cookies
Sesame Cookies are a classic Italian-American treat — buttery, tender cookies rolled in toasted sesame seeds for a nutty crunch. Simple to make and irresistibly delicious, they're perfect for the holidays or any time you want a timeless, lightly sweet cookie.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup, Butter, softened
  • 1 cup, Sugar
  • 2 lg, Eggs
  • 2 tsp, Vanilla
  • 3 1/2 cups, Flour
  • 3 tsp, Baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/3 cup + 2 tbsp, Whole milk
  • 1 cup, Sesame seeds

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375°. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Using mixer at medium speed, cream together butter and sugar (about 1 min.) Add eggs one at a time, vanilla, and 2 Tbsp milk.
  3. In a separate bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, and salt. Add into butter and sugar mixture.
  4. Form balls of dough and shape into small logs.
  5. Pour 1/3 cup of milk into a small bowl and sesame seeds onto a small plate. Dip dough into milk, then into seeds. Place on cookie sheet about 1" apart. Slightly flatten tops of cookies.
  6. Bake at 375° for 18-24 minutes until lightly golden. Cool on cookie sheets for 5 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack.

Notes:

  • I do a heavy 2 tsp vanilla (or more)
  • You can toast sesame seeds in a pan if desired, but not needed.
  • I prefer my cookies lightly browned (pull from oven when edges are turning brown).
